Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. Matthew 20:26-28 (NIV), these are not just words put together, but rather, the pricking realities of life. This text is a reminder to us as stakeholders that we must at all costs endeavor to sacrifice all that is humanly possible for the developments of a great institution such as Utumishi Boys Academy.
This year, we are not only celebrating the good results of the 2025 class but also a team that chose to remain together and focused. The great team of teachers who stood firm and dedicated themselves to the course, the vigor, sacrifice, dedication and support from the parents and the committed cohort of the 2025 candidates, THE SPARTANS. I know it was not easy. I acknowledge and appreciate respectfully the crucial roles played by the class representatives of this class under the leadership of Dr. Eliud Okumu, Justice Onesmus N. Makau, Mr. Philip Bolo, Dr. Gladys Ondieki, Mr. Zakayo Mwangi, Mr. Cosmas Kinuthia and Mr. Fredrick Dawo. Lady and gentlemen, we made it because you gave it your all and that will remain in the history books of Utumishi Boys Academy.
One very important factor which is constant to us all, is that life offers each and every individual a chance. It is a chance at a time. Today, some of us may not have a chance to make or contribute actively in the development of our esteemed school, but they had such a chance last year. A chance to collaborate and partner with the school in realizing the ambitions and visions of our founders. Today, we are celebrating because of men and women who had a chance and made it great, they seized the opportunity and decided to work together as a unit despite the challenges that came with it. I'm sure a good majority may have forgotten the difficulties they endured, they are like that woman described in John 16:21 that a woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born to the world.
To my INVICTUS, the class of 2026, we must understand that the torch has been passed to us. We must understand that the burden is huge and we must keep it up and lighting. You must be aware that great results requires more and we are lucky to have a team that understands the dynamics. As much as the task ahead is huge and we may begin doubting our capacity and ability, we must remember that our doubts are traitors and will make us lose the good we might win, by fearing to attempt.
Finally, I will be greatly dishonest if I will pretend not to remember the great works done by our team of committed and selfless teachers and class teachers under the command of the Spartan's Chief of Defence Mr. Benson Iwamesa and Mr. Wainana Mbatia's Jeshi la Mzee. I understand the struggles of implementing very great programmes under stretched resources with parents who are approbating and probating at the same time. Surely it's true that we made it through and we don't know how we did it, we can't even tell how we did it. But one thing I know, Jehovah took it over and that is how we made it through.
